UN – France congratulates Cindy McCain, the new Executive Director of the World Food Programme (5 April 2023)

France congratulates Cindy McCain as she assumes her duties as the Executive Director of the World Food Programme (WFP).

We commend outgoing Executive Director David Beasley’s commitment to humanitarian action; it was during his tenure that WFP was awarded the 2020 Nobel Peace Prize.

France will continue to offer its full support to the WFP, through the FARM initiative and Save Crops Operation, among other things, to facilitate needy populations’ access to grain and fertilizer. WFP programs play a central role in the response to the global food crisis aggravated by the Russian aggression against Ukraine, with Russia using hunger as a weapon of war.

This coming fall, France will host the first global meeting of the School Meals Coalition formed by the WFP and co-chaired by France; it will be held in Paris.
