UN – International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists (2 November 2022)

On this International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists, spearheaded by France, we reaffirm our determination to ensure that crimes against journalists – whose efforts to provide free, pluralistic and reliable information are vital to democracy – do not go unpunished.

This is one of the key priorities of the Partnership for Information and Democracy, whose second ministerial-level summit was chaired by Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Catherine Colonna in New York on September 22. That initiative, which was launched by Reporters Without Borders and enjoys the support of 48 nations, endeavors to ensure impartial, swift, in-depth, independent, effective investigations into crimes against journalists.

Amid growing restrictions on the freedom of the press worldwide and the spread of information manipulation, France will continue to work with its European and international partners to protect journalists and foster an environment in which they can successfully do their jobs.
