France congratulates Egyptologist and former Egyptian Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Khaled El-Enany on his nomination by UNESCO’s Executive Board for the position of Director-General of the organization.

This proposal must now be approved by the UNESCO General Conference, which will bring together the 194 Member States in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, from October 30 to November 13. The formally appointed candidate will then take over from Audrey Azoulay, who has served as UNESCO Director-General since 2017.

As the State of UNESCO’s headquarters and a member of its Executive Board, France takes this opportunity to reaffirm its full support of the organization and its mission, as well as its commitment to multilateralism.
