International Labor Organization – Candidacy of Muriel Pénicaud for the post of Director-General of the International Labor Organization (30 Sept. 2021)
France presents the candidacy of Muriel Pénicaud for the post of Director-General of the International Labor Organization in the elections scheduled to take place on March 25, 2022, during the 344th session of the Governing Body of the International Labor Organization.
France, which is a founding member of the International Labor Organization, would like, through this candidacy, to promote an ambitious vision of the organization’s role in developing a new social contract that is key to global regulation and in ensuring the effective implementation of standards for social justice, the fight against inequality between countries and within them, and decent work for all.
The International Labor Organization, established in 1919 by the Treaty of Versailles, is a specialized agency of the United Nations. Its mission is to protect and promote human rights in the workplace (work, employment, social protection, and social dialogue). To that end, it establishes international standards, develops policies, and designs programs. The International Labor Organization has a tripartite structure bringing together representatives of governments, workers, and employers from 187 member states.
