World AIDS Day (1 December 2020)
On this World AIDS Day, France calls on all actors in the international community to remain committed to ending this pandemic and reaffirms its own commitment to this fight.
France resolutely engaged in the fight against HIV/AIDS very early on, working with national and international actors whose energy and dedication it applauds. Our country was one of the very first to carry out an international effort based on the values of solidarity and the universal access to treatments, accompanied by a consequential financial effort. France has contributed some €7 billion to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria and to Unitaid since their establishment, making it possible to save tens of millions of lives.
While the Covid-19 pandemic is putting healthcare systems under stress worldwide, France notes that international health security is more reliant than ever on strengthening healthcare systems. The fight against HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria and now Covid-19 is one and the same fight for global health, which we will win only through solidarity and determination in the long term.
