Yemen - France laments the failure to renew the truce (October 3, 2022)
France laments the failure to come to an agreement on the renewal of the truce in Yemen, despite the ongoing efforts of the UN Special Envoy of the Secretary-General for Yemen, whose work France fully supports.
France commends the Yemeni government on its constructive approach to supporting this truce in the hopes of finding lasting peace for the Yemeni people and bemoans the Houthis’ refusal to agree to the proposal that they received. Moreover, France condemns the threatening language used by Houthi leaders, who are threatening Yemen’s neighbors at a time when what is needed is work toward peace.
France reiterates that the only way to put an end to this war is to find a political solution under the aegis of the UN and, in order to achieve lasting peace in Yemen, calls on all parties to return without delay to negotiations under the aegis of the UN Special Envoy of the Secretary-General for Yemen.
France calls on all parties to act responsibly and to avoid any actions that may lead to a military escalation.
