Syria – Announcement of a ceasefire in Suweida Province (19 July 2025)

France welcomes the announcement of a ceasefire in Suweida Province. It urges all parties to observe it strictly and refrain from any unilateral action. Fighting and violence must end immediately. The safety of civilians must be guaranteed and humanitarian access routes restored to ensure the supply of essential services.

France calls on the Syrian authorities to guarantee the safety and rights of all segments of the Syrian population, as President al-Sharaa has pledged. It calls on the Syrian authorities and Suweida Province’s leaders to resume dialogue in order to reach a lasting agreement that will help strengthen Syria’s unity, stability and sovereignty. France also recalls the importance of the Syrian interim authorities’ commitment to investigate the unacceptable atrocities committed against civilians, whose perpetrators must be identified and rapidly brought to justice.

France will continue its efforts to support the stabilization of Syria and reiterates its attachment to the commitments and principles included in the joint statement of 13 February 2025.
