Syria – Situation in Suweida Province (17 July 2025)
France expresses its deep concern over the continued atrocities in Suweida Province, despite yesterday evening’s withdrawal agreement. It calls on all those involved to comply strictly with the ceasefire, guarantee the safety of civilians and restore humanitarian access routes and the supply of essential services in the province. France reiterates its commitment to respect for Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and calls on Israel to refrain from all unilateral action.
France supports the efforts of the Syrian interim authorities and Suweida Province’s leaders to rejoin the path of dialogue in order to reach a lasting agreement in the province that will strengthen Syria’s unity, stability and sovereignty and the security of all Syrians. France notes the Syrian interim authorities’ commitment to investigate the unacceptable atrocities committed against civilians, whose perpetrators must be identified and rapidly brought to justice.
Over the past few days the Minister has spoken to his Syrian and Israeli counterparts to pass on messages to calm the situation down, and to his Jordanian counterpart and America’s Special Envoy for Syria, whose action France commends. France will continue its efforts to support the stabilization of Syria and reiterates its attachment to the commitments and principles included in the joint statement of 13 February 2025.
