South Korea – Conversation between Catherine Colonna and the special presidential envoy to the European Union (10 Jun. 2022)

Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Catherine Colonna spoke today with Kim Gi-hyeon, the Special Envoy to the European Union of the President of the Republic of Korea.

The minister and the special envoy agreed to strengthen the overarching partnership between our two countries, launch new strategic, constructive partnerships for the future and work together closely to bolster regional stability.

The minister emphasized how much France values its relationship with South Korea, a relationship that is grounded in the countries’ shared values of freedom, respect for human rights and democracy.

The minister welcomed the new cooperation opportunities afforded by South Korea’s plan to develop an Indo-Pacific strategy, something that France and the European Union have also developed, and expressed her desire to move ahead with the next steps for joint projects in the region.

Lastly, the minister and the special envoy discussed the war in Ukraine and the situation in North Korea.
