France and Solomon Islands

Along with Australia and New Zealand, France is contributing to maritime surveillance, the fight against illegal fishing and post-natural-disaster management in the region from its base in New Caledonia.

French businesses have a growing presence in the Solomon Islands with the activities of Pacific Islands Energy (energy), Kacific and Alcatel (telecommunications) and BRED (banking).

Our cultural cooperation concentrates on archaeology (excavations conducted on Vanikoro Island) and heritage (preservation of shipwrecks of the La Pérouse expedition. From 2013 to 2016, the Pacific Fund financed the implementation of the regional seismic network ORSNET that the islands could use.

A delegation of the French Senate’s Friendship Group with the Pacific Islands, led by the group’s chair Catherine PROCACCIA visited the Solomon Islands 23-28 September 2018.
