Saudi Arabia - Meeting between Jean-Yves Le Drian and Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs (28 July 2021)
Jean-Yves Le Drian, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, received Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs, on July 28 in Paris.
The ministers called for the continued strengthening of bilateral relations between France and Saudi Arabia. They discussed regional issues of common interest.
With respect to Iran, Jean-Yves Le Drian reaffirmed the urgent need for Tehran to return to the negotiating table in order to conclude the discussions in Vienna. The minister also reaffirmed France’s commitment to regional security and stability, and its determination to respond to the concerns shared by France and Saudi Arabia.
With respect to Lebanon, he reaffirmed the urgent need for the Lebanese leaders to ensure the formation of a government capable of reforming the country, and our mobilization with respect to providing direct assistance to the Lebanese population.
With respect to Yemen, the minister underscored the need for a cessation of hostilities and a comprehensive and inclusive political agreement, and to that end, our support for the peace initiative presented by Saudi Arabia in March. The minister also reaffirmed our strong condemnation of the attacks carried out by the Houthis against Saudi territory.
The ministers agreed to continue coordinating on the issues raised.
