Saudi Arabia / Egypt / Jordan – trilateral meeting (May 23, 2025)
On May 23, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Noël Barrot hosted Faisal bin Farhan Al-Saud, Badr Abdelatty and Ayman Safadi – his Saudi, Egyptian and Jordanian counterparts – to discuss the situation in the Middle East.
In light of the humanitarian emergency and the risk of famine in Gaza, the Ministers reiterated their urgent calls to the Israeli authorities to stop blocking the entry, transportation and distribution of humanitarian aid, in coordination with the United Nations..
The three Ministers also discussed the urgent need to create an alternative to war for Palestinians and Israelis, based on the two-State solution and the legitimate aspirations of both peoples to have their own State and to live in peace and security
They worked on preparations for the High-level International Conference for the Peaceful Settlement of the Palestinian Question and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution, which will be held in New York this June. That conference, which will be co-chaired by France and Saudi Arabia, will bring together the entire international community and particularly Egypt and Jordan, which will play an active role in efforts relating to humanitarian aid, reconstruction, and the necessary conditions for a sovereign, unified Palestinian State. The Minister reaffirmed France’s wish that this conference help us to move forward together on the recognition of Palestine, regional normalization and integration, the disarmament of Hamas and a renewal of Palestinian governance.
The Ministers stressed the importance of developing concrete proposals on securing Gaza and on Gaza’s governance in order to create the conditions for the Palestinian Authority’s return to the enclave and the establishment of security guarantees for both Israelis and Palestinians. They are determined to work together toward this goal.
