Qatar – Conversation between Jean-Noël Barrot and Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar (January 22, 2026)
Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Noël Barrot spoke with his Qatari counterpart, His Excellency Sheik Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos on January 21.
The Minister welcomed the announcement that the Gaza Peace Plan was moving to phase 2. The two Ministers also discussed the announced formation of the Board of Peace (BoP), aimed at resolving conflicts beyond Gaza. In this regard, the Minister reiterated the importance of fully implementing UNSC Resolution 2803, and particularly the delivery of humanitarian aid – vital to the people of Gaza – in cooperation with the UN. He also stressed the importance of reestablishing a political horizon based on the two-state solution.
With regard to Iran, the Minister recalled France’s strong condemnation of the State violence against peaceful demonstrators. He emphasized that impunity is unacceptable and reiterated France’s support for the swift adoption of European sanctions.
The two Ministers also reiterated their commitment to bilateral coordination on regional and international issues. With regard to the situation in Syria, the Minister hailed the ceasefire agreement signed on January 18 by President al-Sharaa and General Mazloum, and once again called on all the parties to abide by it. As for Lebanon, the ministers agreed to continue their consultations ahead of the international conference in support of the Lebanese Armed Forces, which will take place in Paris on March 5.
The Ministers hailed the outstanding relationship between France and Qatar, and welcomed their upcoming Annual Strategic Dialogue. They stressed their desire to continue expanding bilateral cooperation, particularly on business, security and defense.
Lastly, the Minister assured his Qatari counterpart of France’s unwavering commitment to Qatar’s security and regional stability.
