Portugal - Clément Beaune’s visit (Nov. 5, 2021)
Clément Beaune, Minister of State for European Affairs, attached to the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, is traveling to Portugal today.
There he will meet with Ana Paula Zacarias, the Portuguese Secretary of State for European Affairs; they will discuss French-Portuguese bilateral relations, and particularly the “cultural season” that will run simultaneously in both countries from February to October 2022. They will also address the challenge of ocean conservation ahead of the One Ocean summit that France is hosting in early 2022 in Brest. This summit will be an important step in mobilizing the efforts of the international community ahead of the UN Conference to be held in Portugal in late June, in close coordination with the French presidency of the Council of the EU.
Mr. Beaune will also have a meeting with both Ana Paula Zacarias and Juan Gonzalez Barba, the Spanish State Secretary for the European Union. He and his counterparts will talk about the challenges facing the French presidency of the EU Council, specifically social, digital and environmental issues. They will also discuss energy and migration, as well as EU relations with the United Kingdom, Africa and Latin America.
In addition, Mr. Beaune and his Portuguese counterpart will attend a debate at NOVA University as part of the Conference on the Future of Europe, and he will have a meeting with Lisbon Mayor Carlos Moedas.
