Participation in relief and reconstruction efforts in Papua New Guinea (1 June 2024)
Joint Statement issued by the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs and the Ministry for the Armed Forces
In accordance with President Macron’s requests to take part in relief and reconstruction efforts in Papua New Guinea, military capabilities deployed from New Caledonia and French Polynesia will be made available to Papua New Guinea in the next few hours to contribute to the humanitarian response.
This offer of support is being made jointly by the Ministry for the Armed Forces and the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, which will contribute some €300,000 to operations by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to distribute food supplies and shelters and guarantee access to water and hygiene services.
This support, coordinated with our regional partners, is a practical example of the solidarity and civil-military coordination we promote at the SPDMM (South Pacific Defence Ministers’ Meeting).
