France expresses its full solidarity with Nigeria, which is suffering from devastating floods that have led to at least 500 deaths and displaced 1.3 million Nigerians in addition to destroying 200,000 homes.

These floods, like those impacting other countries along Nigeria’s borders, illustrate Africa’s extreme vulnerability to the devastating effects of global warming, which was confirmed in the IPCC’s latest reports, with an increase in both the frequency and the intensity of extreme climate events on the continent.

France will continue to actively support African countries so that they will be able to tackle the challenge of adapting to climate change. In fact, France is one of the main countries providing climate financing to developing countries, with €2 billion set aside every year for adaptation, much of which goes to Africa.
