Niger – Trip by Jean-Yves Le Drian (1-2 April 2021)

Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Yves Le Drian was in Niamey on April 1 and 2 to represent President Macron at the inauguration of Mohamed Bazoum, who was elected President of the Republic of Niger. His visit was made jointly with Jean Asselborn, Luxembourg’s Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, Minister of Immigration and Asylum.

On this occasion, the Minister had an audience with the new Nigerien President and emphasized France’s determination to support Niger in the many areas in which we work together, especially development plans and the fight against terrorism.

With the president of the High Authority for the Consolidation of Peace, the head of the Delegation of the European Union to Niger, and the German and Spanish ambassadors, he also attended a meeting on the “civilian leap forward” decided at the N’Djamena summit and on stabilization efforts in the Tillabéri Region.
