Nicaragua - Q&A from the press briefing (4 October 2022)
Two French-Nicaraguan women arrested in September in Managua are going to be tried for conspiracy and have been placed in detention. Do you have any comment?
We are monitoring the situation of our two compatriots very closely and have repeatedly expressed our deep concern to the Nicaraguan authorities. The French Embassy in Managua is mobilizing all of its efforts in this regard, as are French officials in Paris.
We also want to remind you that we have issued a request for consular access to our two nationals, as guaranteed by article 36 of the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations of April 24, 1963. It stipulates that “consular officers shall have the right to visit a national of the sending State who is in prison, custody or detention, [and] to converse and correspond with him.”
