Lebanon – Fifth anniversary of the Beirut port explosion (August 4, 2025)
Five years after the Beirut port explosion on August 4, 2020, France remembers the victims of that tragic event and reiterates its solidarity with their loved ones. The causes of that explosion, which plunged thousands of Lebanese into mourning, have yet to be fully investigated.
In line with the commitment made by President Macron, France stands with the Lebanese authorities to assist them in their quest for truth and justice. The investigation opened by the Lebanese judiciary must be fully and independently completed. In this regard, France welcomes the Lebanese Parliament’s recent adoption of a bill designed to promote the independence of the Lebanese judiciary, a priority supported by France, which has provided human and financial assistance for that purpose.
France will continue to staunchly support Lebanon and its people in their quest for justice and sovereignty.
