Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Noël Barrot hosted his Jordanian counterpart, Ayman Safadi, today.

In light of the current military escalation in the Middle East, the Minister reaffirmed his commitment to regional security and stability, including that of Jordan, and his readiness to strengthen our partnership in this area. Both Ministers stressed that the only lasting solution to the Iranian nuclear crisis was a diplomatic one. They called on all the parties to deescalate and resume negotiations. The Minister also reiterated France’s commitment to work with our partners to help bring about a negotiated solution to Iran’s nuclear program.

The two Ministers stressed the paramount importance of reaching a ceasefire in Gaza and releasing the hostages. They reiterated their urgent calls to the Israeli authorities to remove all obstacles to the entry, transit and mass distribution of humanitarian aid, in coordination with the United Nations.

France and Jordan reaffirmed their determination to hold a high-level conference on the implementation of the two-State solution. The postponement of this conference for logistical and security reasons in no way alters the collective momentum it had built for a political solution based on the recognition of Palestine, regional normalization and integration, the disarmament of Hamas and an overhaul of Palestinian governance.
