France and Grenada

The opening of an Embassy of Grenada in Paris has been agreed in principle, yet the appointment of an Ambassador is still pending.

Visits

On 30 November 2015, the Grenadian Prime Minister Keith Mitchell participated in the 21st Conference of the Parties on Climate Change (COP21, Le Bourget). On 10 May 2015, the Grenadian Deputy Prime Minister Elvin Nimrod attended the inauguration of the ACTe Memorial on the Expression and Memory of Slavery, in Pointe-à-Pitre, Guadeloupe. On 15 April 2011, the Grenadian Minister of Finance Nazim Burke was received at the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

A first bilateral debt rescheduling agreement was signed on 27 March 2007, thus implementing the recommendations of the Paris Club meeting of 12 May 2006. A new Agreement on debts due by 2009 under the various projects funded by the French Development Agency (AFD) before mid-2004, was signed on 23 April 2010.

Cultural, scientific and technical cooperation

Grenada has no longer been part of the Priority Solidarity Zone (ZSP) since 2002. Cooperation with France remains modest. It aims to foster relations with the French authorities in the Americas. An Alliance française, established in 1950, operates with financial support from regional cooperation. Most French development assistance is now channelled via the European Union, notably via the European Development Fund (EDF).
