Germany - Visit by the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs to Berlin (December 18, 2025)
On December 18, 2025, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Noël Barrot visited Berlin, Germany.
This visit follows on from productive discussions between the Minister and his German counterpart, Dr. Johann Wadephul, that began when Dr. Wadephul took office.
The Ministers talked about accelerating the implementation of the shared agenda that was decided on at the Franco-German Council of Ministers meeting in Toulon in August of 2025, as well as France and Germany’s specific responsibility for developing European sovereignty.
They agreed on the need to quickly come to an agreement on funding Ukraine in order to put the country in a position of strength in Russia’s war of aggression. They discussed EU enlargement and the need to continue integrating the candidate countries from the Western Balkans on the basis of their own merits. In addition, the Ministers had an in-depth conversation about the geo-economic issues facing the EU.
