The Gambia – Joint communiqué issued by Ministers Sering Modou Njie and Jean-Noël Barrot (July 24, 2025)
On July 24, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Noël Barrot hosted his Gambian counterpart, Mr. Sering Modou Njie, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad.
This initial meeting between the two Ministers reflected our excellent relationship with The Gambia, which has gained new momentum since the restoration of democracy in 2017. The Ministers emphasized that we see eye to eye on international matters, highlighting our shared commitment to peace, democracy, the fight against climate change and the effort to protect the oceans.
They acknowledged France’s concrete support for The Gambia since 2018, notably through French Development Agency projects pertaining to water, agriculture, biodiversity and resource mobilization.
The Ministers also commended the vibrancy of the Alliance Française in Banjul, France’s stepped-up economic presence in the country and the expansion of trade.
They also expressed satisfaction with the results of their discussions and reaffirmed their determination to continue working together to expand the friendship and cooperation between our two nations for the mutual benefit of our citizens.
