France welcomes Equatorial Guinea’s abolition of the death penalty following President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo’s signature of the new criminal code on September 19.

France reaffirms its unwavering opposition to the death penalty worldwide and in all circumstances. We remain resolutely committed to the universal abolition of this unjust, inhumane, ineffective punishment. We call on all nations that maintain the death penalty to establish a moratorium on its use with a view to its ultimate abolition.
