Cyprus – Informal meeting in a broader format (19 July 2025)

France welcomes the holding of an informal meeting in a broader format on the Cyprus issue in New York on 16 and 17 July, under the aegis of the United Nations Secretary-General.

After the Geneva meeting on 17 and 18 March, this meeting and the adoption of new cooperation initiatives announced by the Secretary-General testify to a positive momentum towards restoring trust. It must be sustained in order to lead to a resumption of negotiations and a fair, durable resolution of the Cyprus issue, based on a bizonal, bicommunal federation, with due regard for the parameters laid down by the Security Council and the acquis communautaire.

France backs the mediation efforts of the Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy and is ready to support the process.
