Central African Republic - Q&A from the press briefing (12 May 2021)

Q : Hello, according to the media, a Frenchman was arrested on Monday in Bangui and the police found a very large arsenal of weapons at his home. Can you confirm that? Thank you.

A : Our embassy was informed of the arrest of a French national at his home. It is providing him with consular protection, as it would for all French nationals, while fully respecting the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations. The purpose of this protection is to ensure that the person has access to a lawyer, a doctor and acceptable detention conditions.

We deplore the clear exploitation of this arrest and note that this person’s personal information was immediately made public through disinformation networks that are associated with promoting clearly identified interests and are accustomed to targeting France’s presence and actions in the Central African Republic.
