France congratulates Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on his October 30th election as president of the Federative Republic of Brazil, which attests to the strength of the Brazilian democracy.
As the French president has indicated, we would like to revive the friendly ties between our two countries. France will work together with the president-elect and his incoming government in order to begin a new chapter in our bilateral relationship and develop the strategic partnership that binds our two countries together.
In order to pursue and deepen this relationship, we would like to make headway together on several key priorities. We would like to strengthen our political dialogue with the goal of tackling the main challenges facing our planet today, in particular, the climate and the environment. To this end, France commends the president-elect on his statements about protecting the Amazon. We intend to cooperate on such issues as multilateralism and international peace and security. Lastly, we would like to develop trade and cross investments between our countries, as well as cooperation on academic research and exchanges. Strengthening our cross-border cooperation also constitutes an important priority for our bilateral relationship.
