Austria – Visit by Clément Beaune (Vienna, 15 June 2021)
Clément Beaune, Minister of State for European Affairs, attached to the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, will visit Vienna on June 15. He will meet with his counterpart, Karoline Edtstadler, and with Leonore Gewessler, Minister of Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology, as well as with Alexander Schallenberg, Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Six months ahead of the French presidency of the EU, the minister of state will discuss with Karoline Edtstadler the fight against the pandemic and the implementation of the European recovery plan, progress toward a Social Europe, efforts relating to the Conference on the Future of Europe and EU relations with the UK.
The minister of state will underscore the stakes associated with the strengthening of external border controls, within the framework of the Pact on Migration and Asylum and the prospects for Schengen reform, the fight against terrorism and cybersecurity.
Together with Leonore Gewessler, the minister of state will discuss Austria’s ambitions with respect to the ecological and digital transition and will address ways in which our two countries can advance the new climate and energy package during the French presidency of the EU.
Clément Beaune will take part in a debate on European strategic autonomy with students from the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna and will meet with representatives of Austrian civil society, intellectuals and members of the French business community.
