  • Sudan – Freedom of the press (20.02.15)

    France condemns the confiscation of around 20 editions of Sudanese daily newspapers and magazines in Khartoum which constitutes a gross violation of the freedom of expression and information.

  • Sudan - Death penalty imposed for apostasy (15.05.14)

    France condemns the decision by the Sudanese courts to impose the death penalty on a young woman for apostasy. Our embassy in Khartoum has been following this trial and was present for the verdict. We will continue to follow the subsequent judicial proceedings with the utmost attention.

  • Sudan – Attacks against UNAMID (14.10.13)

    France condemns the attack perpetrated on October 13 against a convoy belonging to the African Union-United Nations Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) in El Geneina, which killed 3 Senegalese soldiers, as well as the murder in El Fasher on October 11 of a UNAMID military observer from Zambia.

  • Sudan - Renewal of UNAMID's mandate (31.07.13)

    France reaffirms its full support for UNAMID’s action and for the states that contribute to the consolidation of peace in Darfur. UNAMID has notably had to overcome considerable challenges in recent weeks, in particular the attack that took place to the north of Nyala on July 13 which killed 7 Tanzanian blue helmets and injured 17 others.

  • Sudan – Violence in Darfur (29.07.13)

    France deplores the fighting that recently broke out between the Salamat and Misseriya tribes in Darfur which, according to the most recent reports, resulted in the death of 94 people.

  • Sudan – Attack against UNISFA (06.05.13)

    France strongly condemns the unacceptable attack against UNISFA (United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei) by Misseriya elements, which led to the death of the Dinka leader, Kuol Deng Majok, and a peacekeeper, and injured several soldiers from the peacekeeping force.

  • entation of the agreements between Sudan and South Sudan (11.03.13)

    France welcomes the adoption by Sudan and South Sudan of the implementation procedures for the agreements of September 27, 2012, aimed at establishing a buffer zone. These implementation procedures, together with a detailed schedule, should make it possible to put the planned demilitarized zone at the border of the two states into operation and to deploy the planned monitoring mechanism. This further step removes the last remaining obstacle to the implementation of the agreements of September 27.

  • Sudan – Court ordered amputation (28.02.13)

    France strongly condemns the enforcement in Sudan on February 14 of a double amputation sentence. This barbaric practice is contrary to international human rights standards and to Sudan’s obligations under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights which Sudan has ratified.

  • Sudan – South Sudan (19.02.13)

    France is concerned about the continued fighting between the Sudanese government and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement - North (SPLM-N) in Blue Nile and Southern Kordofan states. It calls on the parties to negotiate as swiftly as possible an agreement on the cessation of hostilities and to find a political solution to this crisis, as requested repeatedly by the African Union and the UN Security Council.
