Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Catherine Colonna is participating in the G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Bali on July 7 and 8, under the Indonesian presidency.

At a time when Russia’s war of aggression in Ukraine – conducted in flagrant violation of the UN Charter and international law – is having a deeply negative impact on the world economy, the ministers will discuss how best to respond as a group to the global consequences of that Russian-instigated war, specifically to the rise in energy prices and the aggravation of global food insecurity.

Catherine Colonna will emphasize Russia’s responsibility for this situation. Together with her European and G7 partners, she will urge her G20 counterparts to step up humanitarian and financial support for Ukraine. She will call on the G20 countries to commit to combating market failures, especially in the areas of agricultural products and energy – failures that Russia is taking advantage of to finance its war on Ukraine. She will underscore the need for a joint roadmap on food security based on the European FARM initiative.
