Jean-Marc Ayrault, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development, chaired the closing session of the “journée du réseau de coopération et d’action culturelle” [cooperation and cultural action network conference].
He delivered a speech to the ministry’s officials and the personnel responsible for facilitating our cooperation and cultural action abroad.
The main themes of this event included digital technology in education, development following the adoption of the 2030 Agenda and COP21, health, partnerships with civil society and support for international action by regional and local authorities.
Our policy of influence and solidarity is now central to our diplomatic efforts. An annual budget of approximately €2.5 billion has been devoted to this area, mainly to promote sustainable development, to enhance our country’s attractiveness in the economic, tourism and academic spheres, as well as to raise its profile in the cultural, linguistic and scientific fields.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development oversees a network of 158 cooperation departments within its embassies, which work with 98 Instituts français, 383 Alliances Françaises and almost 500 schools with French programs. In Paris, the ministry has authority over the agencies responsible for the government’s external action.
