Visits

2025: President Joseph Boakai was received by the President of the French Republic as part of an official visit in October 2025. This led to the signing of a general cooperation agreement to consolidate the bilateral partnership around projects of common interest involving agriculture, climate, biodiversity, renewable energies, mines, education, vocational training, healthcare, water and sanitation, sport and young people. This was also an opportunity to meet French companies.

2021: The Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Jean-Yves Le Drian, made a historic visit to Liberia on 10-11 June 2011. This was the first ministerial visit in 40 years. It was an opportunity to relaunch French-Liberian partnerships in the area of development, the economy and Francophonie.

2018: President Weah was received by the President of the French Republic in Paris as part of an official visit on 20-21 February 2018.

2018: The Minister of State attached to the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne, represented France at President George Weah’s inauguration ceremony in Monrovia on 22 January 2018.

Cultural, scientific and technical cooperation

French-language teaching, which is a driver for Liberia’s regional integration, is a priority for our cooperation.

There is an Alliance Française in Monrovia, which is seeking to increase the number of French courses, train more French teachers and offer a variety of inclusive cultural activities.

Other cooperation

The AFD has been present in Liberia since 2018 and since then has contributed €62 million to projects in the sectors of employment, vocational training, urban development and health.

France has also deployed an international technical expert to the Liberian Ministry of Youth and Sports.
