UN – Stéphane Séjourné to attend the Security Council’s ministerial meeting (23 January 2024)

Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Stéphane Séjourné will make his first trip to New York on January 23, on the occasion of the UN Security Council’s French presidency.

The minister will chair an open Security Council debate at the ministerial level on the Middle East. The goal of this meeting is to make progress toward a political, security and humanitarian resolution of the crisis and a lasting ceasefire.

Mr. Séjourné will meet with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to discuss international crises, including the war in Ukraine, and the global challenges we all face, particularly the climate. He will also meet with a certain number of his counterparts, particularly those from Jordan, Lebanon and Iran, and with the president of the International Committee of the Red Cross.

During his visit, the minister will also have the opportunity to speak with several of his regional counterparts about the situation in the Middle East.
