UNESCO - 44th session of the World Heritage Committee - Inscription of four new French cultural and natural properties (29 July 2021)

France is delighted by the inscription of four new cultural and natural properties on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The members of the World Heritage Committee, meeting at its 44th session in Fuzhou, China, from July 16-31, took these decisions unanimously.

Since the 16th century, the Cordouan lighthouse, built on a rocky plateau in the Atlantic at the mouth of the Gironde Estuary, has served as a beacon for commercial vessels sailing between Bordeaux and the rest of the world. The Great Spa Towns of Europe, including the spa town of Vichy, bear exceptional witness to the European tradition of therapeutic bathing. Nice is named the Winter Resort Town of the Riviera. And finally, the Committee added three French forests to its list of Ancient and Primeval Beech Forests of the Carpathians and Other Regions of Europe: the reserves of Chapitre Petit-Buëch (Hautes-Alpes), Grand Ventron (Vosges and Haut-Rhin) and Massane (Pyrénées-Orientales).

UNESCO’s World Heritage List now includes 49 French cultural and natural properties.
