Jean-Yves Le Drian, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, will meet today with Mankeur Ndiaye, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for the Central African Republic and Head of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA).

The minister will assure Mankeur Ndiaye of France’s full support in the exercise of his responsibilities.

He will reaffirm that MINUSCA’s work is critical to the long-term stabilization of the Central African Republic, notably in order to support, in accordance with its mandate, the implementation of the peace agreement signed on February 6 in Bangui. Since the support of its international partners is crucial, France also intends to play its full role in supporting the implementation of this agreement.

Jean-Yves Le Drian will underscore that questions of transitional justice and the decentralization process - which are key to lasting stability - must be closely monitored.

The minister will reaffirm that we pay constant attention to ensuring that MINUSCA has the appropriate resources to accomplish all of its missions, notably with respect to ensuring the protection of civilians and supporting security sector reform.
