France learned with regret of the resignation of the UN secretary-general’s personal envoy for Western Sahara. It wishes to applaud his work, his personal commitment, and his continuous efforts to accomplish his mission since his appointment in August 2017.

President Köhler facilitated major progress on the issue for which he was responsible, with two round tables in Geneva bringing together Morocco, the Polisario Front, Algeria and Mauritania. France hopes that this positive new momentum will continue and calls on all the participants to pursue this dialogue.

France reiterates, in this regard, its full support for the secretary-general’s efforts in support of a just, lasting, and mutually agreed on solution in Western Sahara in compliance with UN Security Council resolutions.
