United Nations – Meeting between Jean-Yves Le Drian and Pierre Krähenbühl, Commissioner General of UNRWA (Paris, 7 March 2018)

Jean-Yves Le Drian met with Pierre Krähenbühl, Commissioner General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), on March 7.

The Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs reaffirmed to him France’s support for UNRWA. He commended the impressive and necessary work carried out in support of more than five million Palestinian refugees.

While UNRWA is facing financial difficulties, the discussions provided an opportunity to address requirements and the important reforms undertaken to ensure the continuity of UNRWA’s missions. Jean-Yves Le Drian will take part in the donors’ conference in Rome on March 15, which will be an important step toward mobilizing the international community’s efforts.

Lastly, Jean-Yves Le Drian and Pierre Krähenbühl reaffirmed their attachment to finding a just and lasting solution to the refugee issue as part of a comprehensive solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, based on the two-state solution. The minister for Europe and foreign affairs reaffirmed France’s determination to play its full role in the efforts needed to give credible momentum to the peace process.
