United Nations - International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women (November 25, 2016)

On International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, France reaffirms its commitment to putting an end to all forms of violence against women and girls.

More than 20 years after the World Conference on Women in Beijing in 1995, this violence continues to be a reality for one out of three women around the world, and two out of three women in some countries.

France calls on all states to ratify and implement the UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women and to ratify the Council of Europe’s Istanbul Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence.

We are committed to implementing the commitments made at the UN, which are at the core of the “sustainable development agreements” adopted in 2015. On the initiative of France and the Netherlands, a resolution on domestic violence was adopted by the UN General Assembly on November 21.

France also supports the UN Women 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence Campaign from November 25 to December 10.
