United Nations – Special Session of the Human Rights Council on Boko Haram (April 1, 2015)

France welcomes the unanimous adoption in Geneva on April 1 of a resolution by the UN Human Rights Council condemning the heinous acts perpetrated by the terrorist group Boko Haram.

The Council calls on the international community to support the states affected by Boko Haram, underscores the need to respect human rights in the fight against terrorism and requests the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights to prepare a report on the violations committed by Boko Haram in order to contribute to the fight against impunity.

Many civilians, especially women and children, have been massacred, kidnapped or forcibly recruited by Boko Haram. The perpetrators must be brought to justice.

France stands alongside Nigeria and the Lake Chad Basin states involved in the fight against terrorism.
