On October 4, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Catherine Colonna hosted UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi.

In an international situation characterized by an unprecedented humanitarian crisis, with more than 100 million refugees and displaced persons, the minister and high commissioner reiterated their commitment to strengthening the partnership between France and the High Commission.

They discussed major humanitarian crises, particularly those in Ukraine, Syria, Lebanon, Afghanistan, Libya, the Sahel and Ethiopia, and the population displacements they have caused. They also addressed efforts by France and other EU member states to welcome and support refugees and displaced persons. The minister emphasized that France and the EU had immediately granted temporary protection to people fleeing the conflict in Ukraine.

In 2022, France provided the UNHCR with nearly €70 million in annual support.
