France named host nation for the 2023 Rugby World Cup
On 15 November 2017, the international governing body World Rugby named France as the host nation for the 2023 Rugby World Cup. Ireland and South Africa also presented bids.

Ten host cities in France will welcome almost 2.5 million fans. Due to the wide range of sporting events France has held in recent years, these cities are aware of all the challenges, rules and specifications involved in staging this global event.
Over the years, France has played host to many major sporting events (e.g. FIFA World Cup in 1998, Rugby World Cup in 2007, UEFA European Championship in 2016). Today, it is one of the most competent and highly-skilled countries at organizing global sporting events, as was proven on 13 September 2017 when it was selected to host the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
