Arms trade – Arms Trade Treaty – First Conference of States Parties (Mexico, 24-27.08.15)

The First Conference of States Parties to the Arms Trade Treaty was held from August 24 to 27 in Cancún. It established administrative and procedural rules as well as the mandate and location of the Secretariat, as required to implement the treaty.

France welcomes this progress, which will help better regulate the arms trade and counter illegal trafficking. It urges the States that have not yet signed or ratified the treaty to do so promptly.

France thanks Mexico for hosting this initial conference, and congratulates the city of Geneva, which will host the treaty’s Secretariat. We extend our best wishes for success to Simeon Dumisani Dladla (South Africa), who will serve as its interim director for one year.
