Just over three months after the Pau summit, France welcomes yesterday’s establishment of the International Coalition for the Sahel at the videoconference attended by the President of the European Council, the President of the European Commission, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and the heads of state of the G5 Sahel, in the presence of the UN Deputy Secretary-General and the Chairperson of the African Union Commission.

France intends to continue the efforts it has made with the European Union and its Sahel partners to expand the Coalition to other international partners.

The videoconference held the day before yesterday between the Minister and the Minister for the Armed Forces and their counterparts from the G5 Sahel, the executive secretary of the G5 Sahel, and the commander of the G5 Sahel Joint Force, focused on the encouraging progress being made in implementing common commitments on political issues, security, development, and the restoration of public services in the various regions, especially the tri-border area.
