North Atlantic Treaty Organization – Jean-Yves Le Drian’s participation in the Meeting of NATO Foreign Ministers (Washington, 3-4 April 2019)
Jean-Yves Le Drian, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, is taking part in the Meeting of NATO Foreign Ministers today and tomorrow.
During this meeting in Washington, the allies will celebrate the 70th anniversary of the signing of the North Atlantic Treaty in this same city on April 4, 1949.
During this meeting, the minister will express our desire that NATO continue to adapt to current security challenges. He will confirm that France intends to make a full contribution to strengthening NATO’s deterrence and defense posture. He will underscore the importance of taking new threats into consideration, especially in cyberspace. Jean-Yves Le Drian will reaffirm our support for NATO’s efforts in the fight against terrorism, notably in Iraq. He will argue in favor of greater European accountability within the framework of trans-Atlantic relations, and in this respect will highlight the unprecedented progress in European defense promoted by France.
