The International Forum on the African Continent, organized by the Ministry’s Security and Defence Cooperation Directorate and the Institute for Higher National Defence Studies, will take place in Dakar, Senegal from 7 to 12 October 2019. This is the first time that this annual event, which focuses on current geopolitical issues, will take place in Africa.

The 20th Forum will be opened by Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne, Minister of State attached to the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, and Amadou Ba, the Senegalese Minister of Foreign Affairs.

The Forum will bring together 60 civilian and military attendees and senior officials, most of whom are legal experts and civil servants, from 39 African countries. The theme will be: “Africa in 3D: Defence, Diplomacy, and Development”.

This innovative view supports a more comprehensive approach to security on the continent, by taking into account all of the challenges it faces today: the fight against terrorism, desertification, economic development and the quest for institutional stability.

For the first time, the forum was prepared in coordination with African partner institutions: the Centre for Higher Defence and Security Studies, a Senegalese research institute, as well as the Dakar branch of the Institute for Security Studies, a South African think-tank.
