Q – Do you have any response to John Bolton’s comments on the International Criminal Court?
A – France, together with its European partners, supports the International Criminal Court through its budgetary contribution as well as its cooperation with it.
The creation of the International Criminal Court to try those responsible for the most serious crimes was an important step in the fight against impunity to which we, together with the United States, are very attached.
Indeed, the International Criminal Court is a tribunal with international jurisdiction. It also acts under the principle of complementarity, when states are not able or are unwilling to do so.
The Court must be able to act and exercise its prerogatives without hindrance, in an independent and impartial manner, within the legal framework defined by the Rome Statute.
