Public health - World Tuberculosis Day (March 24, 2015)

On the occasion of World Tuberculosis Day, we reaffirm our commitment to eliminating this pandemic, which affects almost 9 million people every year around the world. It remains the second most deadly infectious disease after AIDs, killing 1.5 billion people every year, notably among populations that don’t have access to healthcare systems.

France is determined to play a key role in the fight against this disease. Research into new treatments that will make it possible to eradicate the most resistant forms of the disease, and support for local healthcare systems in their efforts to implement universal health coverage are essential.

France is the second largest contributor to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, which provides 80% of international efforts in support of the fight against tuberculosis, and the leading contributor to UNITAID, which develops innovative programs aimed at addressing this global health challenge.
