Health – 2015 Nobel Prize for medicine (October 6, 2015)

France welcomes the awarding of the 2015 Nobel Prize for medicine to William Campbell, Satoshi Omura, and Tu Youyou, who discovered key treatments for parasitic diseases and malaria.

This award underscores the importance of fighting these tropical diseases, which particularly affect the world’s poorest populations.

France is committing to combating these scourges through its research institutions, its pharmaceutical industry, and its support for the World Health Organization, the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, and UNITAID. At last June’s G7 meeting, we reaffirmed our determination to continue this effort, with the goal of eradicating these diseases by 2030.
