Q: Sergey Lavrov, the minister of foreign affairs of the Russian Federation, said that Russia is not seeking to return to the G8. According to him, during a meeting with Mr. Trump in Washington, this issue was not discussed. Yet Russia is prepared to host a G7 meeting in Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Sochi or Yalta. Can France accept this Russian proposal?

A: Traditionally, the country holding the G7 presidency hosts the group’s meetings. In this case, the proposal you refer to does not currently apply.
