Death of Jacques Delors (27 december 2023)

We were deeply saddened to learn of the death today of Jacques Delors, former French Economy and Finance Minister and former President of the European Commission.

A founding figure of European integration, Jacques Delors left his mark on Europe’s destiny.

Through his contribution to such milestones of European construction as the Maastricht Treaty, the Schengen Agreement, the launch of the Erasmus programme and the implementation of Economic and Monetary Union, which enabled the creation of the euro, and through his commitment to a united Europe able to take action, as well as his struggle for peace and democracy, Jacques Delors will remain an endless source of inspiration for all those who hold Europe and the European project close to their hearts.
